Elle

A literal translation to “she” in French, Elle is a female graffiti and street artist noteworthy for her use of diverse mediums and ability to make her work accessible from almost anywhere throughout the city. She may originally be from the west coast but for Elle, Brooklyn is home. The artists moved to New York City 7 years ago and has lived and worked in the borough ever since. From stickers and wheat pastes to murals and extinguisher pieces, there is a constant interplay between her work and the city. The energy of New York is equally as rooted in her work as she has become a part of this city’s urban landscape.

She has scaled and painted billboards along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway freeway, installed a piece in the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin, and had a 200 foot video projection on the facade of the New Museum in New York. In Spring 2014 she had a collaborative exhibition with renowned photographer Martha Cooper. She has been active on the streets for over five years.
